Social Issue

Reflection:

My social issue is women's rights. I chose this topic because it is extremely important to me. It exists everywhere around the world. All women have experienced gender stereotypes and inequality, and it is important the shine a light on the issue. It is present in our society because women are constantly being oppressed for being the "weaker" gender. These photos represent strong, brave women standing and fighting against these norms.

I chose this issue because I've gone to multiple marches in San Jose, Washington D.C. and in San Fransisco, and it is such an amazing experience. I went with a couple of my friends when I lived in San Jose, and being with them in this event was so powerful. One of the photos that I chose portrays my friends painting that says "we all bleed the same color". This one is a statement supporting our amazing colored women who deal with more oppression than white women do. I made sure to go around and take pictures of the signs because I found them so creative and beautiful.

I think this issue is so powerful and moving. Women around the world are fighting for the rights that men are naturally given, and I am so proud to be apart of the movement. As it is International Women's Day, I thought this was more than appropriate. I think this topic is so important for all women to be apart of. And more importantly, it is important for young girls to see that they are powerful and strong despite what the world says.
